Memoryhouse, a new dance collaboration with Maciej Kuzminski had its premiere on February 9th, 2024 at the Schauspielhaus in Linz, Austria in collaboration with Tanz Linz. This project was realized over the course of a year with the designer Gabriela Neubauer, sound designer Hodei Kaperotxipi, assistant choreographer Monika Witkowska, and the fifteen Tanz Linz dancers under the artistic direction of Roma Janus and ballet master Yuko Harada. The piece touches on existential themes through the lens of collective memory with references to classical mythology such as the myth of Sisyphus, the Fates, and the Satyr. It also explores the ancient concept of the eternal return.
“Myth succeeds as an intermediary when the conscious, literal meaning of a myth suggests another, symbolic meaning, which for Jung is the psychological one. He therefore asserts that myths—more precisely, the motifs in myths—are not merely widespread but universal and are not merely similar but identical.”
Robert A. Segal
