If I Had A Gun, I’d Take Them All Down in Warsaw

On July 24, “If I Had a Gun, I’d Take Them All Down” was performed at Teal House, in Warsaw.

The performance is a monodrama by Ukrainian artist Piotr Armianovski that pushes beyond the conventional boundaries of stage storytelling. It delivers a raw and unflinching meditation on Ukraine’s ongoing struggle with cyclical violence and Russian aggression. The piece is inspired by the true story of Dmitry Bogrov (1887–1911), a Ukrainian-Jewish lawyer, double agent, and revolutionary who, in 1911, assassinated Russian Prime Minister Pyotr Stolypin (1862–1911) at the Kyiv Opera House. Bogrov was arrested, tried, and executed shortly thereafter. Through innovative use of video and sound design, the production immerses audiences in both historical and contemporary Kyiv, tracing the path that led the young Bogrov to his final act, while echoing the author’s own lived experience of conflict in Ukraine today.
